Agroindustrias Piñón S.A. (Agroipsa) is a Honduran company, growing alternatives energy crops south of Honduras. Agroipsa is focused on the development of non-food biodiesel crop Jatropha curcas. Jatropha is a hardy crop well adapted to tropic regions, able to grow on poor soils with capability to become a profitable crop if it is well cultivated. Agroipsa has an established large scale operation of Jatropha and can provide technical information such as: planting practices, agronomy management and another technical knowledge require to grow Jatropha properly.
Due to increasing popularity of Jatropha curcas as a feedstock for biodiesel, Agroipsa technical team has documented most of the daily management of their farms, wich has lead to acquire knowledge to succesfully plant and harvest Jatropha Curcas for the production of bio-fuels. Agroipsa team has progress in identifying the most effective way to cultivate the Jatropha curcas plant.
Jatropha oil produced from the Agroipsa's plantation will be used to meet both local biodiesel requirement and for export to markets such as Europe, where domestic feedstock produced fron other energetic crops like rapeseed and waste oil is ulnlikely to be suficcient to meet the demand for biodiesel.
