David Erazo, Director General de AGROIPSA de Honduras, expresó que de las
1024 hectáreas cultivadas, 400 hectáreas están en su tercer año de edad
(edad comercial) de la que esperan obtener 1200 toneladas de semilla seca
(tres toneladas por hectárea). La semilla es entregada a otra empresa para
la producción de biodiesel. Calcula que esa semilla está produciendo
aproximadamente unas 400 toneladas de aceite o biodiesel

El cultivo de la semilla de piñón toma fuerza en Choluteca debido a la iniciativa de
la Empresa de Biocombustible de la Agroindustria del Piñón, Agroipsa, que ha
reconocido en el aceite de la semilla el mismo potencial del petróleo.
